What is off-road diesel?
Off-road diesel is the same No. 2 diesel sold at the pump, dyed red to show that federal and state road taxes have not been paid on it. It is for tractors, combines, generators and other equipment that does not run on public roads. The federal excise tax alone is 24.4 cents a gallon.
Running dyed fuel in a vehicle driven on public roads, including a farm pickup, is against federal law and carries fines. Some states allow limited exceptions; check with your state's revenue department.

Can you use off-road diesel in a truck?
