About Farm Market Prices

What this site is

Farm Market Prices puts USDA livestock and hay auction reports, extension custom rate surveys and state sale barn lists into pages that can be read on a phone and searched.

Where the numbers come from

Cattle, sheep, goat and hay prices are from USDA Agricultural Marketing Service Market News. Market News reporters attend each sale or collect trade data, and USDA publishes the report. This site retrieves those reports from USDA's Market News API and shows the values USDA published. It does not average, fill in or estimate any price.

Custom farming rates are from university extension and state survey publications, shown as printed, with the survey and edition named on every table. Sale barn listings are from state department of agriculture lists.

History

Every report retrieved is kept. Each barn page lists past sales, and any past sale can be opened in full.

Who runs it

Farm Market Prices is an independent site built by Tennessee Web Dev in Knoxville, Tennessee. It is not affiliated with USDA, any university or any sale barn.

Corrections

If a figure here differs from the USDA report it cites, the USDA report is correct. USDA sometimes issues corrections; this site re-checks recent reports several times a day and replaces corrected reports.
